We stayed the night in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin in the luxurious Hotel Les Deux Frerès. Fantastic views towards Monte Carlo and an interesting hilltop village with a castle. In April and on a Monday the choice of restaurants was very poor -well only one, La Grotte, in the village square which has to be avoided at all costs.

The GR51 at the col de la Coupière is 45 minutes walk either by road or path to the village. We had a pleasant mid morning drink in Gorbio with our lunch in Ste-Agnès. This is a really pretty section through steep valleys with flowers and trees. Castellar can be seen before getting to Monti – but it is only tantalislingly near. There are a few more twists and turns before climbing up to Castellar where there is the late afternoon bus number 903 (see Stage 1) to Menton. There are buses from Gorbio (7) and Ste-Agnès (10).
